Services Provided

I conduct neuropsychological assessments with an adult population, that is, patients 21 and older.  I do not see patients who are in high school.

My specialties are geriatric neuropsychology and medical neuropsychology.

I do assessments on those with a medical diagnosis or a suspected medical diagnosis, such as dementia (like Alzheimer’s disease), Mild Cognitive Impairment, stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, brain tumor, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, lupus, etc.; specifically, the evaluation must be medically necessary.

Unfortunately, I do not perform psychological evaluations (to assess only if a person is depressed, anxious, etc.) or neuropsychological evaluations to screen for Attention Deficit Disorder, learning disabilities, mental retardation, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Please note that my assessment does screen for depression and anxiety, and at times, other psychological problems; however, that is not the focus of the evaluation.  For example, I can do an assessment on an older person to see if suspected cognitive decline is due to dementia or depression; however I cannot do an assessment just to diagnose depression.

Approximately 1-2 weeks following the assessment, I will call you with results and recommendations.

I am more than happy to answer questions you may have regarding my services, but your physician’s office must send me your records and the reason for referral before an appointment can be made.  As neuropsychological assessment is considered a medical procedure (neuropsychological assessment is not covered under mental health benefits), referrals are necessary if the patient’s insurance requires referrals to other doctors.

Please note, I do not do psychotherapy/counseling.  Please contact your insurance company for providers of such services.

I appreciate your time and the opportunity to share with you information about my practice.

What is a Neuropsychological Evaluation?

A neuropsychological evaluation helps you and your doctors/health care professionals understand how the different areas of your brain work.  A typical evaluation assesses general intellectual functioning, attention and concentration, learning and memory, language abilities, visuospatial skills, problem solving/reasoning, and mood/personality.

Your doctor usually orders this test when memory problems or difficulties in any of the above areas are suspected.

In addition to testing, an extensive interview is conducted, sometimes with a trusted family member or friend.  You will be asked about your symptoms and medical history, as well as your social, educational, and occupational histories.  This information is crucial when interpreting your test scores.

Including the interview the evaluation takes an average of 3-4 hours.  This does not include time for scoring and report writing.

A report is sent to your doctor within 1-2 weeks with the results and recommendations for treatment.  In addition, 1-2 weeks after your evaluation a feedback session is conducted in person or by telephone where the results and recommendations are reviewed in practical terms.
